Beware & Advocate for yourself ~ Anesthesiologist

We NEED to be our own advocate. I had to have a same day procedure done and spoke with the anesthesiologist about making sure there is NO FORM of sulfa, sulfates or sulfites in the medications. He brushed me off by saying, "Don't worry, I'll only give you a little at first." I tried to explain to him the seriousness of my allergy and he did not want to listen so, I cried and begged the nurse to help me and make sure that the meds given to me did NOT have ANY form of sulfonamides in it. The nurse agreed to help me. She got the dr., who was doing the procedure, and we talked and I cried, about the seriousness of my allergy and even the slightest bit could cause a reaction. She double checked the medication and even allowed me to double check the medication. That was VERY scary. If I did not know how to advocate for myself, a simple procedure could've become life threatening! I should also add that I had this procedure before and it was in my records that I had a different anesthesia. Speak up for yourself and others!!!

Sulfate free items

Recently, I saw the new advertised Pantene shampoo that said it was "sulfate free". Well, if you read the ingredients it is only particially sulfate free. Please don't be fooled by false advertising and read all of the ingredients.

I did find reasonably priced body wash, shampoo and even laundry detergent that is COMPLETELY sulfate free. Whole foods brand, 365, has 100% sulfate free shampoo, body wash and laundry detergent. I have tried each one of them and they work well.

Need an allergy specialist?

I found this awesome website where you can find an allergy specialist near you. I am hoping to be able to find a doctor in my area trough this website. You click on what your specific type of allergy it is, then type in your zip and then how far you would travel.

Product ingredients

Well, I did not find out about the Yankee Candle ingredients yet, but I did find a link through the US Dept of Health and Human Services which lists different products that contain sulfur. I typed in sulfur and the different types of sulfur comes up once you click on them individually, you can see a list of products that contain that form of sulfur. To my surprise, I found out that some fertilizers even contain sulfur as well as a ton of other products that I did not know. This link should be helpful and will direct you right to the list with the different types of sulfur.

Another way you can look up product ingredients is through their MSDS (Material Safety and Data Sheet). All companies need to list them. Unfortunately, it only gives you some of the ingredients, but it is a start.
