Yankee Candles and sulfur???
I got home last night and my husband was in our living room with a Yankee Candle and the fireplace going. I stayed in the living room for about 2 hours before going to bed. When I went to bed my nose was SO stuffy I could barely breathe. Then, when I woke up in the morning, my eyes, tongue and throat had begun to swell and it was hard to swallow. So, I AGAIN ended up in the ER. I definately had ANOTHER allergic reaction, but to what?? Well, I did what I know I shouldn't do, I sat by the fire again today but, no candle. Good news, no reaction. I know that could have been a bad idea but, I had to find out what the issue was. So, I then called Yankee Candle to ask them if sulfur is part of their "fine ingredients" that they will NOT tell ANYONE and they told me that I HAVE to send them a letter from my doctor to verify my allergy before they will answer me. I will let you know, I wll NEVER buy Yankee Candles, will NOT accept them as a gift and encourage others to buy their products b/c they OBVIOUSLY DO NOT care about their customers.

Today's Dr. Visit
After my pepto incident, my primary dr. referred me back to the allergist to have some sort of sulfur desensitization done. Well, though some of my web searches, I didn't think that was possible, but I'm not a dr. so, I figured maybe there is something he could do. So, today I went there and it was so disappointing because all he kept saying to me was, "Well, you know more about this than I do" and that there is no desensitization that can be done. Now, if you've ever had a dr. tell you that, it's actually a scary thing to hear. But, he did give me the name of a doctor who works at St. Luke's Hospital in Manhattan who specialized in chemical allergies. Then, he said again, "But, I'm not sure how much he can help you" then "oh and I don't think he takes insurance either" So, I tried to look him up and found nothing.
So, I asked him questions about if my allergy may progress and he said, "Well, I really don't know. The more you expose yourself, the worse your allergy will get. But, who knows maybe you'll gro out of it." I highly doubt that if my allergy has kept progressing since I was 17 to now at 33. But, I'm hoping for anything at this point.

Natural Sulfates
The sulfates in some foods occur naturally such as in wines or balsamic vinegar. These items I have reactions, but there are also "natural" sulfates in garlic, eggs, meat, etc. These items I have not had reactions to. Is it possible that as my allergy progresses, it may begin to include these items too? Does anyone else have reactions to these items due to their sulfonamide allergy?
